Can you believe it? Eighteen year old Alan Webb ran the fastest mile known to man. He beat the world record fastest mile, [breaking] Jim Ryan’s 36 year olds national high school record of 3:55 min. once thought to be untouchable. Alan Webb beat it by 5 sec. It’s not a lot but you know what they say, a foot, a mile, winnings winning. He practically stole the show from all those professional athlete runners’ even those who have made it all the way to the Olympics. He really showed them who the best of the best was. I personally think he should be in the Olympics and I think he probably will be in the Olympics sooner or later.By:Meagan T.Photo from: http://eur.news1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.com/ng/sp/ap_photo/20050808/all/l1516206.jpg
Have you ever wondered why everyone says Mohandas Gandhi is such a good person and how he made non-violent protests that colored men and women should have the same rights as the rest of us? Well if you were I’ve got some answers for you.
The man we know as Gandhi was born with the name Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born in Porbandar, Gujarat in 1869. He was the son of Karamchand Ghandi and Putlibai Ghandi. Ghandi went to school in Rajkot, a nearby town. He was a shy boy growing up. Ghandi was married at the age of 13 in 1883 to Kasturba Makhanji. He had four sons named Harilal, Manilal, Ramdas, and Devdas.
You see, Gandhi moved to South Africa in the early nineteen hundreds. There he didn’t stop working until he gained the rights of Asian Africans. He did this by putting his beliefs into action. His beliefs were listening to the inner voice which the believed was God. This voice told him that people should have no violent actions and just because someone believed in something else than your religion, that you should not put them down for it. And when he protested this so many people in this country agreed with him the government backed down.
He returned to India in 1915 to his family and friends. There he began a non-violent movement satyagraha, or ‘truth force’ through this truth force he became the head of the Indian National congress. They fought against the British government and they ruled India. So even though the Muslims were hurting India he also looked at it from the Muslims point of view and how the India’s were hurting them too. So now do you see what Gandhi did and how he made a difference in the world today. Well I sure did and I also learned how to search the web a LOT easier.
