Indira Gandhi
(1917-1984)

Indira Gandhi was born in 1917. She spent part of her childhood in Allahabad India. The other part was spent in Switzerland. She was the only child of Kamla and Jawaharlal Nehru. Her father Jawaharlal Nehru was Indias first Prime Minister from 1947-1964. She recived her college education at Somerville College, Oxford. While her father was in office she joined him on many foreign trips. At the age of 25 she married Feroze Gandhi in 1942. He died in 1960. She then rose in the government of India until she was elected Prime Minister in 1966. She was Prime Minister of India from 1966-1977 and 1980-1984. She was assassinated in 1984. She is to this day a great role model for the woman of India. She said “Even if I died in the service of the nation, I would be proud of it. Every drop of my blood… will contribute to the growth of this nation and to make it strong and dynamic.”
While studying Indira Gandhi I learnd that no life is without meaning. Even though she was a indian women she made a great diffrence in India and to woman around the world. She showed people that woman can do everything man can. Thank you Indira for changing the world.
