Aryan Invasion

Filed under: History of India, Social Studies, BriannaL, 6H —— briannal6h @ 9:01 pm

The Aryans were a huge amount of people who came from Central Asia and invaded Northwest India. They entered India through the Khyber pass. The period from which they lived in, 1500 B.C.E - 1000 B.C.E., was called the Vedric time period. It was named after their four “books” which they called the Vedas. Veda means knowledge. They are the Aryans beliefs and knowledge made into poems and sacred hymns. There were four Vedas, and they were called the Rig, Sama, Yajur, and the Atharva.

The Aryans were nomads. They lived in groups called clans. There were many clans, and sometimes they had wars against clans. Each clan had a warrior chief called a Rajas. Getting the job of the chief was hereditary. That way there was no big argument on who got to be chief.

The Aryans wrote many magnificent stories. They shared these stories by either singing or reading them to each other for centuries. Some of them were called Ramayana and Mahabharata. These were very famous stories!

They also raised livestock, rode chariots, and did all the other things that the people in their time did. The Aryans favorite past time was gambling. They loved to gamble. It was a big hit in their time.

The Aryans were a very important part in India’s history.

The story about the Aryans is a theory. There is little evidence about them, so they are still unaware if they are real or not. India acts like the Aryans did, so some people believe that they were real. The British put the Aryans in the school text books, but that is all we know about them now!

I never knew that people could be unsure about history and still teach it in school. They drew such beautiful pictures!

Olympics vs. Primetime! By Maya and Brianna

VS.

Let’s root for our country and go for the gold but that’s not the case this year, more people are tuned in to American Idol to hear Simon Cowell dis people than to watch the Olympics. In fact last Wednesday night only 15.4 million people watched the Olympics while a woping 31.1 million people tuned in to American Idol. “We are T.V. surfers” said Rick McKeel, a primetime junkie and Hanover county resident. ” We haven’t ignored the Olympics altogether, but if it’s between the Olympics and American idol, it’s American Idol all the way.” As well as American Idol, Desperate Housewives, Lost, House, Grey’s Anatomy, Dancing with the Stars, and CSI are all higher in the ratings than the Olympics. It’s sad to say this but America loves reality and primetime television!

Tasmanian Devils Mouth Cancer

Filed under: Newsbreak-Week 3, 6H Newsbreak, International Newsbreak, BriannaL, 6H —— briannal6h @ 5:12 pm

These black scavengers live in Tasmania, Australia, and this is their only habitat. In the 1990’s there were 140,000 of these fox sized creatures, today it has decreased to 80,000. Scientists believe that this is due to Devil Facial Tumor Disease. This desease creates grotesque tumors on the Tasmanian Devil’s snouts, which leads to starvation. Some scientests believe this is a contagious disease that is spread when they bite eachother when they are fighting over carcasses, which is a natural behavior. When they bite eachother it’s usually on the face. A cytogeneticist, Anne-Marie Pearse found out that the chromosomes in the cancer cells were the same in every tumor. “Finding a vaccine would be the ultimate goal” said Pearse. She suspected that the continual line of cancer cells would attract researchers of human cancer. The only cancer that was like this one happened in dogs, but it was overcome by the dogs immune system. The devil’s desease cannot be overcome by it’s immune system though. Then a pathologist professional Conrad Muller said, that it was too early to tell what the ramifications of the discovery would be. Muller also said, “if the tumors are all common, then one potential approach would be some sort of vaccine therapy”. Hopefully they can find a cure and fast!

Suez Canal Paper by Ali, Brianna, and Sarah

Filed under: Suez Canal, AliR, BriannaL, SarahD, 6H —— allir @ 11:03 pm

(Ali) Are you ready to learn about the Suez Canal? (Brianna) Well now is your chance. We will tell you about the human characteristics, history and, physical characteristics!

Now for the human characteristics. The suez canal connects the mediterranean sea to the red sea. It is usually titled “the crossroads of Europe, Africa, and, Asia ” because countries on those continents transport goods to other countries around the world. By taking the suez canal, people shipping goods from, for example, England to India, can cut 6,000 miles off their journey because they don’t have to go around Africa now that the suez canal is in business. now I will hand it off to Brianna, Briannas part of the story will be on the Suez Canals history.

Thanks Ali the history on the Suez Canal is very interesting it starts like this. The Suez Canal has had a very very important history. Said Pasha started this big project. He had many egyptions who were beeten to finish this incredible task. They began construction on the 25th of April, 1859. Then after all the hard work people put into the Suez Canal it finally opened in 1869. On August 25th 1882 the British took contrle of the canal. Then after a long period of time, it was restored to Egypt this back and forth of the owners, from Britain to Egypt, happend a couple more times. then on June 5th 1975 it was closed and blocked by Egypt. there were also many presidents of the Suez Canal company. one of them was Charles Jonnart. He was president from 1913 till 1927 through this period he played an important part of the canals history!!! Today the Suez Canal is open to every nation that is the way it should stay for years to come.

Now you will hear from Sarah with the physical characteristics!

Now I will tell you about the physical characteristics of the Suez Canal. The canals long length reaches to 193 km or 101 miles. The width of the canal is 365.3 m. The distence between the booy’s is 205.18 m. it is from 58 feet to 68 feet deep. thats one HUGE canal. Very large ships weighing from 300,000 tons to 500,000 tons can pass freely through this canal because of its size.

Now you know a lot more about the Suez Canal

My favorite place to go!

My favorite place to go would be California! It’s my favorite place because that is where Cole Sprouse lives. When I go there I will meet him and he will become my boyfriend. He will then help me to become a famous actress. We’ll be in many movies and shows together. After when we’re older and both rich and famous we will get married. Plus his twin brother Dylan, and my best friend Sarah will get married too. Then we’ll have kids and they will become rich and famous just like us. We will live together forever in a mansion in California and Italy. Together we will make one big happy family!
