The Lion King Play

Over the weekend I got to see The Lion King at the Bushnell. I would recommend the fascinating play to anyone. It has the classic story with amazing costumes. My favorite part was in the beginning when they sang “The Circle of Life.” All the animal appeared and my favorite one was the elephant that must have had four people in the legs. The lioness had excellent masks. The costumes were made so you could see the face of the actor but so they still looked life like. Also the singers did excellent, even the monkey that portrayed her part excellently. I would give this play five stars *****. Go see for yourself!!!!!!!!!!!

Student Council by AllieB

Filed under: Classroom Happenings, AllieB, 6V —— allieb @ 10:15 pm

As student council is coming to end and the new elections are being held next year I think. I better inform you all about it!

Student council is an excellent program. That is why you should run for it! The awesome activities after school are sure to keep you busy! There are also meetings every other Friday morning. We also hold dances, activity nights and fundraisers, such as the candy stick sale. Council members help collect food for drives and help out with things such as the upcoming art show. Also we get into most sponsored dances free!

There is also our director, Mr Jollif! He is very nice and fun and keeps us all in line. He organizes our field trips to conferences, our fun dances and activity nights. He also greets us every morning with an announcement sheet. Some(times) we can talk on the morning annoucements. Mr J also goes and gets us donuts, o.j. and bagels. All in all Mr J rocks!

Last but not least is the meetings. Each meeting is semi packed with fun ideas and thoughts for the up coming events. We discuss the last event we held and talk about how much $money$ we made. We have so much fun, sometimes we goof around but you didn’t hear it from me! Student council is the greatest activity in school and keeps you always busy!

So next year I hope you run for the fun and fantastic Student Council!

Slow Dance

Do you run through each day

On the fly?

When you ask “how are you”?

Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done

Do you lie in your bed

With the next hundred chores

running through your head.

You’d better slow down

Don’t dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won’t last.

Ever told your child,

We’ll do it tomorrow?

And in your haste,

not see thier sorrow?

Ever lost touch,

Let a good friendship die

Cause you never had time

To call and say, “Hi”

You’d better slow down.

Don’t dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won’t last.

When you run fast to get somewhere

You miss half the fun getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,

Its like and unopened gift….

Thrown away.

Life is not a race

So do take it slower

Hear the music

Before the song is over.

Written by David L. Weatherford and published under his name in 1991.

Live everyday of your life like you were dying.

Can We sign your cast Barbaro?

Filed under: Animals, AllieB, 6V —— allieb @ 9:35 pm

Barbaro the winner of the Kentucky Derby broke his legand had 23 screws put in during his 5 hour surgery! Barbaro is supended in a warm water pool during recovery and will stay there as long as possible. They might have put him down since the surgery cost a little under 1 million dollars and he will suffer much pain at times, not to mention the risk of disease. They have decided to keep him alive because he is an expensive horse and can be kept for breeding. Although he may not live ( he only has a 50% chance of surviving) he legend will. The day started and he was ready for the race. He had already won the Kentucky Derby! A false start was called on him. He must have been nervous and excited all at once, and could have popped the bone slightly in the false start. As he made his way out his was some 8/13 around the track when the jockey must have heard a pop! The jockey stopped him from going on(this is only what I have heard from the onlookers ) “they saved his live” some one said! But he is alive and now is recovering!

Oliver Twist

Filed under: Book Reviews, Classroom Happenings, SaraH, 6V —— sarah @ 10:45 am

Oliver Twist

Just recently in the sixth grade chorus we finished performing the play, Oliver Twist.

Oliver Twist is about a little boy named Oliver who is an orphan who finds himself living in a work house owned by Mr. Bumble but after Oliver asks for more gruel he gets transfered to an undertaker. Oliver doesnt seem to like his new home with undertakers so he runs away and is found on the street by a boy named Jack Dawkins, who offers him shelter in a house owned by Fagin. Fagin is a man who trains orphans to pick pockets for him. Oliver stays with them for awhile but once he goes on his first “mission” involving stealing a hankerchief Oliver becomes scared and runs away. Then he is found by owner of the hankerchief and a man named Mr. Brownlow, who takes care of Oliver for awhile while he is fainted but then Mr. Brownlow’s and Oliver’s relationship is ruined when a man named Bill Sikes finds him and takes him back to Fagins hideout. Will Oliver be happy to be back with Fagin? Will he want to return to Mr. Brownlow? Will Oliver become a pick pocket master? Read the book, watch another play or see the movie of Oliver Twist to find out what happens.

Anyways, It was a blast, however, we had a little problem with opening the curtains but eventually the whole play went good and everyone pulled off a great performance!

The Three Gorges Dam!

Filed under: Three Gorges Dam, MichelleS, 6V —— michelles @ 1:46 pm

The Three Gorges Dam is located in China and is one of those things where it is getting built and yet some people are still very unhappy with it. I know I dont like the idea at all! Some people say “well it’s already about half built and it would be a waste of millions of dollars to stop now and we would go back to polluting the air with nuclear power plants.” The Three Gorges Dam is designed to generate 18.2 million kilowatts of electricity. That is 1/7 of Chinas total electricity for a year and it equals to 18 nuclear power plants. It will reduce air pollution that would have been made from nuclear power plants and it will control down river flooding. One thing that most people like about the dam is that it lets boats and ships go 1500 miles further inland. Others say “this is damaging the environment just stop now.” The dam will kill many animals including birds and fish. Also the dam will put 150,000 acres under water that include 140 towns, 320 villages, 1500 factories and many historical sites. So as this is all going under water more then 1 million people will be relocated.
So after all there is a debate some people may like the idea of finishing the dam and some may hate the idea. “I hate the idea to finish the dam it will put so many historical sites under water and then the history will be gone!” explained Heather. “Plus”, added Allie “it will cost around 32 billion dollars and it may not stop flooding”. “It will let boats move 1500 miles further inland, but it will slow them down because they will have to go around the dam in the locks or elevator.”

Lion King 2 Summary

Filed under: Movies, SaraH, 6V —— sarah @ 8:55 am

Lion King 2 Summary

Director: Darrel Rooney / Co-Director: Rob LaDuca

Voice Cast: Matthew Broderick (Simba), Neve Campbell (Kiara), Andy Dick (Nuka), Robert Guillaume (Rafiki), James Earl Jones (Mufasa), Moira Kelly (Nala), Nathan Lane (Timon), Jason Marsden (Kovu), Suzanne Pleshette (Zira), Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa), Michelle Horn (Young Kiara)

As we all know, The Lion King left off with a new cub born. Her name, Kiara. In the beginning they show Kiara growing up. Being a adventurous and very curious cub. She was thrilled alot just by chasing grasshoppers! Although, Simba was very overprotective in the movie. He even gave her “guards”, Timon and Pumbaa, as Zazu was his own. Also, Simba tries hard to follow in his fathers paw prints.

Later on in the story, Kiara manages to escape from Timon and Pumbaa and explore the Pride Lands on her own. She finds Kovu on her adventure, a young male lion, like any other lion, persay, except he was one that was banished from the Pride Lands like the rest of his family. But to Kiara, that didnt matter. She thought that they were all equal and all the same. If only the others could see that too…

Kovu’s mother dislikes Kiara and her family very much, for they are the generations of Lion that have thrown them out of the family for obvious reasons. Simba forbids Kiara from having contact (friendship) with Kovu. Kovu’s mother does the same, untill she realizes that this may give her the chance she has been waiting for. Think about it, Kovu could get into Kiara’s family, “become one of them”, and then turn on them. That way her son (Kovu) could become the King.

Will Kovu take over the pride lands? What will happen to Kovu and Kiara’s love? Will It fade away? To find out go watch the movie, and remember like It says in the Lion King Two song I posted earlier, “Love is never wrong and so It never dies,” Think about that and I’m sure It will give you a big hint to what the movie is about!

Thank you so much to this website for alot of the Information and Pictures!

The Unicorn Battle

By SaraH

Once there was a unicorn battle,

the trickster trolls begun,

the red blood dripping from their horns,

showing they are done, they tried and tried,

day and night, until there day had come,

to disapear in the night forever an days to come.

The next rad thing.
