Olympics vs. Primetime! By Maya and Brianna
VS.
Let’s root for our country and go for the gold but that’s not the case this year, more people are tuned in to American Idol to hear Simon Cowell dis people than to watch the Olympics. In fact last Wednesday night only 15.4 million people watched the Olympics while a woping 31.1 million people tuned in to American Idol. “We are T.V. surfers” said Rick McKeel, a primetime junkie and Hanover county resident. ” We haven’t ignored the Olympics altogether, but if it’s between the Olympics and American idol, it’s American Idol all the way.” As well as American Idol, Desperate Housewives, Lost, House, Grey’s Anatomy, Dancing with the Stars, and CSI are all higher in the ratings than the Olympics. It’s sad to say this but America loves reality and primetime television!

A great post. Well written and interesting. Way to go Maya and Brianna. Not long ago Maya was worried about understanding this whole weblog thing, and now she’s writing blog posts with the best of them!
We are watching Idol and the Olympics at our house. Sasha Cohen is our favorite Olympian (especially Mrs. H.) My favorite on American Idol so far is Chris Daughtry. A bald Bo Bice with an awesome rock and roll voice.
Once again, outstanding post girls.

I have to admit that I haven’t watched much of the Olympics this time around, but it hasn’t been so I could watch reality shows. Why do you think reality shows are so popular?
What do you think could be done to increase the number of people watching the Olympics?

Maya/Brianna, I personaly think that reality/game shows are awsome but in your post you wrote “It is sad to say this but America loves reality and primetime telivision” and I think that is a bad opinion on our country.
BUT….. You can think what you want.

Hey Ryan I read your comment on me and Brianna’s post and I thought I should explain what we ment. We ment that it’s sad that people don’t want to watch athletes representing our country, but instead they watch reality and primetime television. So we weren’t trying to dis our country but to make people aware that we should watch the Olympics little more to appriecate what these people do. I mean they train for years and they get a great chance but not many people get to experience their excitement or sadness with them !

I think the olympics shoud have put one sport on one night, not 5 sports in one night. It would be easier to watch.

By the way Maya American Idol is not a reality show.

First of all…STOP ARGUING!!! We all have our opinions and we all make our own mistakes! OKAY??? I hope that settles that! Anyways, You guys did great and I think I can answer Nancy’s question. To fix this, maybe TV producers can change the times that the shows are on so we can watch both shows not one, or, they can change the dates, seasons, etc. that they start the shows. I need to make a suggestion though. You need to check your spelling. (Example: wopping*) GOOD JOB!!!

Emily I totaly agree about making the times on different nights,
but I think the problem may be that people just aren’t interested
in the olympics except for people who love to watch sports.
Great idea again emily!
